SKYTHIA. Olbia. Mid 1st century BC. AE (Bronze, 22 mm, 8.91 g, 12 h). Laureate male head to right, with the features of Asander. Rev. Kithara; to right, star. Anokhin 516 (as 'Apollo'). HGC 3.2, 1896 (as 'Apollo'). Rare and unusually attractive. Struck slightly off center and somewhat smoothed, otherwise, good very fine.

The head on the obverse of this issue bears striking resemblance to that of Asander, the King of Bosporos in 43-16 BC, indicating some degree of supremacy of the Bosporans over Olbia.
